Eco-Style

We're going eco-crazy this week at YoLadies, in honor of forty years of Earth Day goodness. There are so many great companies doing stylish things that are Earth/socially friendly, and fashion is no different. Forget the companies who use sweat shops and polyester (no offense to polyester) - check out these companies that can make you the hottest do-gooder on the face of the planet!

edun online Edun Online combines the use of organically grown cotton with viable business production in Africa, and has a great selection of hot clothing items for men and women. From their site: "Launched in Spring 2005 by Ali Hewson and Bono, EDUN's mission is to help build Africa as a viable source of production for fashion. Founded on the premise of trade for aid, EDUN is a for profit business that aims to raise awareness of the possibilities in Africa to encourage emulation. To help achieve this goal, EDUN is investing in the development of a community-based value chain, beginning with organic cotton. In 2007 the company launched EDUN LIVE, a blank tee shirt division that is 100% "grow to sew" African produced."

thieves boutique Thieves Boutique's house line, Thieves by Sonja den Elzen, is a great collection of comfortable but flattering and classy designs. From their site: "With the Thieves collection, den Elzen focuses on using on eco friendly fabrics such as organic wool, organic cotton, peace silk, bamboo, tencel and vegetable tanned leather."

izzy laneFounded by Isobel Davies after saving sheep on their way to the slaughter, Izzy Lane produces absolutely gorgeous wool products from sheep that will live their lives comfortably and well cared for at the sheep sanctuary in Britain. The sweaters are absolutely amazing.

There are so many great designers who are using organic and environmentally friendly, socially conscious fabrics, let's hope that some of the more mainstream designers follow suite. Check out the EcoFashionWorld Blog and EcoChic International for more ideas on doing green in style.

I just found this jeweler who uses conflict free diamonds and recycled gold and platinum, too - pretty cool! http://www.brilliantearth.com
