Umbrellas to die for

January 26, 2011 | Jolene |

Every season is umbrella season. In ancient times, palm leaves and colored feathers were used to keep the sun off of royalty, and that evolved into what now keeps the sun, rain, and snow off of us today.

Although, like sunglasses, some like to keep their umbrella purchases cheap and cheerful, figuring it will end up forgotten in the office kitchen or under a chair in a restaurant, but here are a few that might inspire even the most forgetful to get something special to add to the $5 emergency umbrella collection.

x ray umbrella Check out this cool umbrella that Anastasia Spada made from old x-rays. The film is water repellant and looks pretty groovy. This is one you'd have to do yourself, but it might be a fun project to try.

isotoner colorful umbrella This colorful umbrella from Isotoner would be a great way to stay bright even on the darkest of rainy days. It would even look cool as a sun repellant, with its bright, sunny colors.

the superbrella I couldn't find out where to buy this Superbrella, but I want one. This is what you need for the windy driving rains that no other umbrella can handle. Looks cool, too.

pagoda umbrella This umbrella is awesome! The Bella Pagoda Umbrella would add instant quirky glamour to any outfit. Wouldn't you feel like some kind of Dr. Seuss princess carrying one of these?
