Electric cars, coming soon

November 30, 2010 | YoLadies | Comments (0)

In the next few months, Chevy and Kia are releasing their versions of the electric car. After reading Kiera Butler's article in Mother Jones, it's hard not to get excited about the possibilities of not only saving money on gas, but also not being forced to support big oil.

The Chevy Volt is an electric/gas hybrid, so if you run out of battery charge after the estimated 37-40 electric miles, you'll have a backup and will still get around 37 mpg. The Nissan Leaf is completely electric, and the range on that varies from 68-138 electric miles.

For those who don't drive more than 40ish miles per day, either of these cars would be great. For those of us who do, the Volt might be the best choice as there wouldn't be the need to immediately charge up or be stranded. Any readers planning to be one of the first to try out one of these cars?
