I don't know if it's something in the water, or the cycle of the moon, but these past few weeks have seen a spike in media reports of bullied gay teens committing suicide. What is going on with our kids? Are we really raising them to be so insensitive to their fellow humans that they happily drive anyone different from themselves to end their lives?

I don't know what would devastate me more, being the parent of a child who ended their brief life, or being the parent of a child who tormented someones son or daughter so badly that they saw no way to escape their pain other than death.

What I do know is that if my children turn out to be as half as strong and brave and gracious and passionate as Fort Worth City Councilman Joel Burns, I'll be content that I did a good job raising them. The following video can be hard to watch, but it's worth it.

Thank you, Joel Burns.

God that had me in tears. What a beautiful message, and he sets a great example for a group of young people who need to hear first hand that it will get better.
