"The GreenShows" at New York Fashion Week

Did you know that cotton is the most toxic crop grown in the world? Huge amounts of water and pesticides must be used to grow the cotton that supports the clothing industry.

During New York Fashion Week, a fashion show called "The GreenShows" presented a lineup of eco-fashions that any girl would love to parade around in their everyday life. These haute couture fashions are environmentally friendly, sustainable and incredibly functional. The fashions seen in this show were made from lampshades, plastics, discarded clothing, local textiles and even chandelier parts! Even the jewelry and shoes in The GreenShows are eco-friendly.

The goal of eco-fashion is of course to design them using environmentally friendly material, but to also create functional items that can be worn in many ways and that are sustainable. These days, who doesn't want functional items that can be worn in more than one way?

Check out the video below to see some of these fashions on the runway at New York Fashion Week. Visit ecouterre.com to see a slideshow of the fashions from each of The GreenShows' designers.
