The best chili recipe ever

August 23, 2010 | YoLadies |

Late summer, in many parts of the country, isn't just about back-to-school, football, and shopping for fall clothes. It's also about chili festivals and vying for bragging rights to the best chili recipe ever. YoLadies readers are fortunate to be in on the secret for the chili recipe that can truly be considered the best ever. Honest.

This recipe doesn't rank high on the healthy meter, but if you're watching fat content or just don't eat red meat, ground turkey can be used in place of ground beef. This recipe will feed four to six people.

Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef or ground turkey
1 can of red beans
5 cloves garlic
1 tsp Sriracha hot sauce
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Mexene Chili Seasoning
1 cup diced tomatoes
water
2 tbsp Masa flour

Brown the ground beef or turkey in a dutch oven, and drain as much of the oil as possible. Add the beans, garlic, sriracha, and Worcestershire to the drained meat and stir in over medium heat. Add the Mexene Chili Seasoning to taste - about a quarter of the bottle is recommended. Add enough water to cover, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer until the water reduces. Add the diced tomatoes, and once again cover the mixture with water and simmer, repeating the process until you start to get a nice thick consistency. This usually takes a couple of hours. Finally, slowly mix the Masa flour into the chili to thicken it further - be careful to sprinkle it in slowly to avoid clumping. This is especially true if you use white flour.

Note on salt: Chili typically tastes better with more salt than is medically recommended. It's best to cook it without salt and let people take care of that to their own taste.

Serve with saltines or crusty bread. If you're feeling like being really unhealthy, serve over fritos and top with grated cheese. :)
