Six ways to look hot (and stay cool) in the sticky summer

jackie onassis with her cool sunglasses onSummer - family, friends, good times, barbecues, swimming, traveling, gardening, and watching the stars. Oh yeah, and heat. Lots and lots of heat, and for a lot of us humidity is the only other drawback to the summer. We have a list of six things that will ensure that no matter how sweaty and glow-ey you get, you'll still be stylin'.

1. Sunglasses are required - not just for looks. Seriously, protect your eyes and as we all know, looking hot while doing it is the fun part. I don't care what your best friend says, no one looks bad in Jackie-O's...try on several pairs and see which style you like. Big, glam sunglasses can work on anyone. John Lennon's are another story, though. If you have a fat head, like me, then no-no to the small, circular frames. On certain people though - look out! And, for the supermodels out there, cop glasses can be supa-hot.

groovy sundress from Dillard's2. Sundresses - a must. Go for supa-cool prints and bright colors, South Florida style. I love the longer versions that have been in style the past few seasons...but then sometimes there's just nothing like a flirty, flippy, spaghetti strap slice of hawtness like the one on the left. That was lifted from the Dillard's website, btw.

Michael Kors Dove sandal from zappo's dot com3. Sandals...can't live without 'em. Unless you're hiking or running or work a job that isn't sandal friendly, my god, stay away from anything but. Espadrille's are always classic, as are simple leather flip-flops. I'm seriously not into the boot/sandal thing that's been happening, but for going out, these Michael Kors' Dove Sandals from Zappo's are just too amazing. Just remember - you don't have to get weekly pedicures to keep your feet sandal ready, but please, don't forget the pumice stone and peppermint lotion.

Free People Cargo shorts from Bluefly4. Shorts - forget about the image of the dumb American tourist who is always wearing shorts. God, who wears long pants in the summer heat? Shorts are where it's at, when you aren't in a sundress situation. Or when you just don't feel like worrying about it. Love the Free People Cargo shorts found on Bluefly!

beautiful modern hand fan5. A hand fan - OMG bring them back into style please! I got one at a friend's wedding in Key West, last summer, and used it all summer long. It works way better than a folded newspaper or magazine, and looks a lot better, too. Some of them even whisk the scent of sandalwood your way, as you fan. The one on the right is SO gorgeous, and a little pricey, but you can get functional and cute ones from party favor stores, as well.

calgon body spray6. Travel size bottle of body spray - gotta have it. Don't use perfume, because it's just too strong to use in the heat. Go to Bath and Body Works or The Body Shop, or even go to CVS for a small bottle of Calgon Body Spray, and keep it in your bag. You, your friends, family, co-workers, and fellow public transit riders will be glad you did.

So have a great and stylish summer - feel free to add in your summer-time fresh advice in the comments!
