I went to San Francisco for the first time, last weekend. One of my goals was to take pics of snappy dressers on the street, Sartorialist style. Instead, I just walked around like a typical tourist, enthralled by the architecture, street performers, and amazing beauty. I still want to write about the style though, 'cause man, they got it. San Francisco people know how to dress - and I even found a Sartorialist style blog for SF called The SF Style.
One common item I noticed on a lot of people are uber-skinny jeans, cuffed or un-cuffed. I'm talking skin-tight, suck-it-in rock-and-roll jeans - not just skinny legs. I even bought a pair, after repeatedly asking my friend at the Levi's store, "are you sure I don't need to get a size up?" "They'll stretch," he assured me...we'll see. I wore them on the flight home and wasn't in too much pain, but it felt great to take them off and replace them with a summer dress. They may be much better minus the flight swelling.
I loved the light, feminine blouses that are worn over the skin-tight jeans, pretty, long sweaters, and groovy loafers. One thing that I found is imperative in San Francisco - listen up, my fellow Southerners - is that a light jacket is definitely a must, even in summertime. I was warned about that but, in the heat of Dallas, forgot to bring one, and ended up rushing out to find a couple of great South American ponchos from a boutique on Market Street. I normally wouldn't complain about "having" to buy new clothes, but it will be October before I can wear them again. Unless I get back to San Francisco before then, that is.
Check out The SF Style blog for tons of great pics and fashion inspiration!
