No escape from Facebook

I love Facebook for a lot of things, like keeping in touch with old friends, keeping up with the latest viral videos, and making sure that everyone knows which 80's song I have stuck in my head at any particular moment. I find myself checking it too often, like many, and have to force myself to shut the browser tab so I can get on with "real" life instead of screwing around with my friends.

That's why I can't visit CNN.com anymore. There is no escape from Facebook. Now, if I go to CNN to see what the headlines are, off to my right is a box telling me which of my Facebook friends has recommended an article. I hate it - it's creepy. If I want to know if a friend recommends an article, I'd rather see it on Facebook - not on another site. I'd like to escape once in a while from the ever present updates and witticisms from my friends and just read the news without knowing if anyone else "likes" it or not. Seriously. Not everything has to be social.

I can only hope that my other favorite sites will stay away from the temptation to be linked up even more by adding that stupid effing Facebook plugin. Don't do it. You're already at the top of the Alexa rankings - everyone already knows your name - don't make me hate you because I can't escape my "friends" faces on your site.

Please.

Bingo. Thank you for articulating how many of us feel. It's social crack. Any kind of social crack is a bad idea. :D LOL.

Now, back to REAL untagged life!
