Summer is on its way, and that means it's time to stop hiding and ignoring the battered women of my body - my feet. I cram my feet into crazy high heels to pump up the calve-age and to add a little height, use them to get where I need to go, and generally treat them like garbage. I pound them on the pavement while worrying more about whether my skirt is riding up somewhere.
I'm making 2010 my year of pampering my feet, making up for all the abuse I've inflicted over the years. It's my fault that they have bunions at what I personally believe is an early age. It's my fault that they can't take on hour long hikes anymore, that they angrily kick shoes off in a desperate yearning for freedom, and that they sometimes refuse to take me any further without a nice, long rest. I'm sorry feet, I promise I'll treat you better from now on.
I've been trying to buy comfier shoes for several months, and have found some styles and brands that really make a difference, and look great, too. Ballerina flats are classic comfort and are readily available in all styles and price ranges, clogs are keeping their place in the fashion/comfort world, and espadrilles are another way to look pretty while staying comfortable at the same time. Born is the absolutely most comfortable shoe ever, and they make great-looking heels that won't make your feet scream.
I found this site with home remedies for foot care, which range from using cayenne pepper in the winter to keep your feet warm, to peeing on your feet in the shower to soften them. Personally, I'm happy just to soak them and do a nice massage, use some nice lotion, and put them up for a while. This summer, I'm gonna be doing a lot of that nice stuff for my feet, although wearing a nice strappy heel isn't out of the question, on occasion.
