There are many online tools out there that can be used to learn the facts about the environment, calculate your carbon footprint, find ways you can help/how to take action and much more. Below are a few handy tools that provide valuable information that can be used to better understand the connection between our lives and the environment.

  1. Get detailed information and facts about the current state of the environment you live in. Visit EPA.gov and use the MyEnvironment tool on the home page, or use the widget below.

  2. Find nearby recycling centers. One of the most common reasons people do not recycle is because it is inconvenient. Use this tool to find the closest centers to you. It will make it easier to properly discard of materials (such as computer/electronics equipment) and to recycle other materials (such as glass, paper, metals, etc.).

Visit Earth911.com and use the search box on the home page for finding recycling centers.

  3. Find out your ecological footprint (impact on the earth's environment) by taking this quiz (it only takes a few minutes). Then, learn ways to reduce your footprint based on your quiz results at MyFootprint.org:

  4. The next time you need to buy a consumer product, try to purchase green when possible! National Geographic's Green Guide helps you make smart, "green" buying decisions on many consumer products, from wine to carpet to toilets to bedding -- you get the point!

Go to http://www.thegreenguide.com/buying-guide to learn more.

  5. Bored? Play "Games with a Message" by the WWF! The Seagull one is pretty fun, you get to poop on politicians!
